How to Search Cases by Name
The Washington County Clerk points to Indiana MyCase for the public case lookup. Pick Search by Name. Choose Washington County. That covers matters belonging to Washington Circuit Court and Washington Superior Court. Start with the party's full last name. Add a first name, middle name, or birth date only if the results need narrowing. For a business, use the Business/Organization Name field instead.
- Open MyCase and choose the Name tab.
- Enter a person last name or a business name, then add known details.
- Select Washington County and a criminal, civil, family/relations, or probate category when useful.
- Use All, Open, or Closed status and a filing-date range to narrow broad results.
- Open a plausible result and match its case number, court, parties, and filed date to known information.
Fields matter here: typing a name into the wrong box can hide a match that is really there.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Format or Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Person Last | Text | For person search | Use the full name first; trailing wildcard is allowed. |
| First / Middle | Text | No | Narrows common-name results. |
| Birth Date | Date | No | Use mm/dd/yyyy when known. |
| Business/Organization | Text | For business search | Use instead of person-name fields. |
| Court / Category | Select | No | Choose Washington and a case group. |
| File Date From / To | Date | No | Limits the filing window. |
Washington County MyCase Lookup
MyCase offers three search paths: Case, Name, and Attorney. The Case tab takes a Case Number, Citation Number, or Cross Reference. The Attorney tab accepts last, first, and middle names or an Attorney/Bar Number. The Name tab covers people and organizations alike. Every route lands on the same public Odyssey case information, just from a different starting fact. The MyCase landing page is the state entry point. Its public application holds the actual search controls. Expect a CAPTCHA after repeated searches. The terms bar automated scraping and bulk data mining. Keep the public screen for individual lookups; use the written Indiana Office of Judicial Administration route for compiled data.
How to Search by Case Number
Washington Circuit Court and Washington Superior Court case numbers start with 88C01. The uniform structure is 88C01-YYMM-TT-SEQUENCE. County and court code come first, then filing year and month, case-type code, and a sequential number. A teaching example is 88C01-2401-F6-000001, which is synthetic and not a live case. Type the full number from your notice first. Indiana search tips allow dropping hyphens and leading zeroes. A second try without punctuation can help. Never build a number from a person's name. Citation and Cross Reference searches demand the exact Odyssey value. If one fails, switch tabs. Use the case-number or name tab instead of adding a wildcard to the citation.
Washington County Case Search Tools
Wildcards and sounds-like solve different problems. A trailing asterisk broadens a name's ending. It cannot replace a whole first or last name. Sounds-like catches spelling variants, but Indiana's tips say it will not work with a wildcard, so turn both off when the spelling is certain. The official MyCase search tips explain these controls and date filters. Start narrow and change one input at a time. If a search nears the 1,000-result cap, add Washington County, a category, filing dates, a first name, business name, or known case number. Status All covers open and closed records. Open and Closed are portal filters, not legal findings that a judgment was paid or a matter fully resolved. A no-result screen does not prove that no paper or older converted Washington court record exists.
What a Case Search Shows
Each result row helps separate possible matches. The detail view then shows public case information and certain documents drawn from Odyssey or converted legacy systems. Older records may carry less depth, and the official file stays with the court and clerk.
| Case Number | The unique Washington identifier, including the 88C01 prefix. |
|---|---|
| Case Style / Parties | The caption and public party names, subject to access rules. |
| Case Type | The code and category, such as criminal, civil, family, or probate. |
| Filed Date | The date the case began in the court record. |
| Status | The portal's open or closed indicator, not a substitute for the final entry. |
| CCS Entries | Dated text recording filings, settings, orders, and other judicial events. |
| Documents | Public images that Indiana rules and system coverage permit online. |
| Financial Display | Public balances where shown; the clerk has current financial information. |
Read entries in date order. A filing means a document reached the case. A setting schedules an event. A later order or disposition tells what the court actually did, and the Washington County court calendar workflow explains how to verify a hearing date when no standalone Washington list is available.
Washington County Odyssey Case Search
Washington Circuit Court and Washington Superior Court went live on Indiana's Odyssey case-management system. The date was July 6, 2009. Odyssey backs the CCS, the public MyCase display, e-filing connections, and court administration. That history explains why modern Washington County cases share the statewide interface. Older material may show less online depth. The official Odyssey courts list gives the Washington go-live date. Indiana court technology information describes the system. The MyCase help center ties the public reader to it. E-filing is a separate filer workflow. Documents move through a certified provider, an e-filing manager, and Odyssey. An attorney filing login is not needed to read the public Washington County docket.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Washington runs no separate public docket database. MyCase serves as both the statewide layer and the county's linked online starting point. The local clerk stays the official-file and service channel. The real comparison is online convenience versus local authoritative access, not two competing databases.
| MyCase Statewide Search | Washington County Clerk |
|---|---|
| Searches participating Odyssey courts and lets users select Washington. | Handles the official Washington Circuit Court and Washington Superior Court file locally. |
| Best for name, number, citation, attorney, status, and filing-date lookup. | Best for public items missing online, older records, copies, and current balances. |
| Shows public case data and some public documents. | Applies court access rules to the original record and copy request. |
| Available online but not guaranteed complete or current. | Reachable by phone, counter, published email, or a request method confirmed with staff. |
The Clerk sits at 801 S. Jackson Street, Salem. The office lists 812-883-5748. Suite 102 is the published office. Call before visiting. The office posts no general mail-in copy form, online order form, or named public-terminal policy. Ask which request, payment, postage, identification, and certification steps apply.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Access rules come first in Indiana. Rule 4 presumes court records are open. Rule 5 carves out confidential information and case material. So a Washington County case search may not surface sealed records, juvenile matters, adoption files, or other protected content. An expungement can narrow visibility once the court grants relief. And a public account never overrides a court order. MyCase works differently depending on who is asking. Parties can reach authorized documents in their own case with an access code and account. Attorneys go through Courts Portal. Neither route unlocks sealed material. The official party-access explanation lays out that split. A filing missing from the online docket has more than one possible cause. Access rules, conversion limits, or public-display timing can all hide it. For a public filing with no online trace, contact the Washington County Clerk rather than assuming it was never filed.
Washington County Order Case Search
Protection-order cases sit outside ordinary MyCase. Indiana runs a separate Search Protective Orders and No Contact Orders route for them. It covers publicly accessible statewide orders filed from July 1, 2009. Search by respondent name or case number. Set Washington as an optional county filter, and complete the CAPTCHA. One caution: use this direct PORP route. The bare MyCourts root shows an INcite login instead of the public order search.
The registry's public interface offers two search modes. By Name requires a respondent last name. The first name is optional. Extra filters include a birth-year range, race, county issued, and city of residence at filing. By Case Number takes a displayed form like 49D01-0909-PO-999999 or an undashed value. When a case has multiple orders, the registry shows only the most recent information. It leaves out confidential or sealed data. A residence city may be out of date.
Verify Washington County Case Results
MyCase says plainly that it is not the official record. Data entry errors, conversion glitches, access limits, or plain timing can leave information incomplete. Treat a result as a pointer, not proof. Use it to identify the right case. That means the Washington Circuit Court or Washington Superior Court case. Then confirm any fact that matters against the newest CCS entry, public order, or clerk-held file.
Best check: Match the case number, court, parties, filed date, and latest CCS activity before treating a Washington County result as the intended case.
Everyday lookups should stay within the portal terms, with no automated searching. Compiled or bulk court data needs a written request to the Indiana Office of Judicial Administration under Administrative Rule 9. One public document missing online? The Washington County Clerk is the practical first contact.
Match the Washington County Case
A shared name proves little when the docket returns several hits. Before trusting a result, compare the Washington court code, filing date, case type, parties, and recent CCS entries. If key facts clash, ask the clerk.
Washington County Case Search Boundaries
The official Washington County PayGov route handles payments only. It is a payment service, not a public case index for a Washington County court docket search.

Keeping PayGov payments separate from a MyCase search or clerk certification prevents wasted effort.
The county's Citizen Request Center page handles general citizen requests, not the Clerk's court records form.

Its department choices do not establish a court-record request route.
Washington County Case Lookup Help
The official MyCase help center explains public scope and online limits.

Checking a missing public document with the Washington County Clerk usually resolves it fastest.
The search-tips page explains names, dates, wildcards, sorts, and pagination for a smoother docket search.

Those controls make a broad Washington name search more precise.
